Hmm, according to packages.ubuntu.com Ubuntu 12.04 should package R14B04 
rather than R16B01. So either rabbit1 is not running 12.04 (is it 
running 13.10?) or you have installed from a PPA.

"sudo apt-cache policy erlang" should help you figure out what's going on.
