Be aware that this is for all intents and purposes the lowest level of
abstraction you can get - so you subject to APIs that are not
guaranteed to be set in stone.

Having said that, and on a purely personal note, getting your head
around Erlang is well invested time. This is because of all of the
monitoring functionality you get thrown in for free with OTP. And it's
all functional programming.
