[rabbitmq-discuss] amazon EC2 instance "start-stop-daemon:user ''rabbitmq" not found"

Thanks for the advice Michael,
went ahead and deleted my original init script and followed the tutorial...
everything goes well until I do :
sudo apt-get install rabbitmq-server
at which point rabbitmq-server kind of freezes (see pic) when trying to start
no idea why or how to solve this issue..

You almost certainly can use the apt repo instead:
http://www.rabbitmq.com/install-debian.html
Are there any specific reasons to use Erlang from Erlang Solutions?
If not then following the instructions on the Debian installation page above
should be all you need. This will provide you init.d/upstart scripts and also
greatly simplify upgrades and uninstallation.--
