You almost certainly can use the apt repo instead:
http://www.rabbitmq.com/install-debian.html

Are there any specific reasons to use Erlang from Erlang Solutions?

If not then following the instructions on the Debian installation page above
should be all you need. This will provide you init.d/upstart scripts and
also
greatly simplify upgrades and uninstallation.
