You said you managed to get rabbit to start when running as 'root' and 
that you couldn't get it to work when starting the service (which starts 
rabbit as the 'rabbitmq' user). So please repeat the above as the 'root' 
and 'rabbitmq' user.

If that doesn't throw up any clues then the only way for us to debug 
this further is to get remote access to the machine.
