[rabbitmq-discuss] "Already running" crash dump

I'm running 32bit Ubuntu 9.10 and installed the 'rabbitmq-server' package
from the ubuntu repositories. I suppose when it installed it started the
daemon automatically. I tried to run the command `sudo rabbitmq-server
start` from the terminal and was greeted with:

[ andrew at andrew-scala:~ ]$ sudo rabbitmq-server stop
{error_logger,{{2010,9,2},{13,55,20}},"Protocol: ~p: register error:

{error_logger,{{2010,9,2},{13,55,20}},std_info,[{application,kernel},{exited,{shutdown,{kernel,start,[normal,[]]}}},{type,permanent}]}
{"Kernel pid

Crash dump was written to: erl_crash.dump
Kernel pid terminated (application_controller)
({application_start_failure,kernel,{shutdown,{kernel,start,[normal,[]]}}})

After doing some digging I found out that this is because rabbitmq-server
was running already, though I feel like this is something that should be
handled more appropriately, like letting the user know in a friendly way
something along the lines of "rabbitmq-server is already running!" rather
than giving me a cryptic erlang error message.
