[rabbitmq-discuss] RabbitMQ 2.1.1: Building from sources: No rule to make target deps.mk ?!

I wonder if this is the same issue I had a week or so ago when it was
discovered that the rabbitmq-server repo was not being transferred correctly
between the mercurial repo and the git repo? Apparently the repo problem is
hidden as a warning instead of being exposed as an error. Try checking out
the rabbitmq-public-umbrella instead of the rabbitmq-server and see if the
problem goes away. It did for me.
