Further to this, it's worth baring in mind that currently, the timestamp is added by the tracer client, so it could vary considerably from the point at which the broker handled the message (if e.g., the queue is backed up).

I've filed a bug to look at adding a timestamp when the broker handles the trace messages and possibly to look at making the log format configurable. This is quite low priority compared to a lot of other tickets though, so if there are lots of you who care about this feature then now would be the time to speak up!
