Well.

I don't believe that the persistence mechanism in RabbitMQ is "very 
slow" by the standards of persistence mechanisms.

But of course disk is "very slow" compared to RAM.

600 msg/s is not a good rate though, you should be able to get an order 
of magnitude improvement. But it will all come down to how fast your 
disk is.
