Thanks for your detailed investigation, which might prove useful for
others experiencing the same problem. At this point I'm not sure whether
your requirements are sufficiently general to warrant updates to the
code. If you think there are things that we could change to make your
life easier (once you have a solution that you are happy with) then
please let us know.
