There have been no changes to the core message routing logic between 
1.7.0 and 1.7.1, and SimpleTopic{Producer,Consumer}, in both their 1.7.0 
and 1.7.1 version, work fine for me against a 1.7.1 broker.

If the behaviour you saw is reproducible, please post the steps.
