Hi Joern,

Totally! You've got the right idea. There have been a few experiments
along those lines, most notably bug19230. It's lagging the mainline
releases quite significantly at the moment, but could be revived. Here's
a quick description of the experiment:

"Alternative experimental presence scheme, with amq.rabbitmq.presence
exchange and every queue broadcasting startup/shutdown into it, with the
queue name in the routing key."

There are some serious issues to resolve before any of this stuff will
hit mainline releases, though.
