FYI, all, that design was created by iMatix and extended by Qpid.

Some of this work has evolved into AMQP management spec work.

I would also like to see how people see this playing out with the XMPP
IM gateway, as in 'Creating, Listing and Deleting Exchanges' here:
http://hg.rabbitmq.com/rabbitmq-xmpp/raw-file/tip/doc/index.html

Note that this is all very generic - I applaud Edwin's approach for its focus!
