[rabbitmq-discuss] Do WebStomp/Sock.JS require a constant connection?

If a single page app isn't feasible - are there any alternatives? Can I
make an explicit AJAX call when the page loads or something? Or should I
keep a history of recent messages in a cache somewhere?
