[rabbitmq-discuss] Possible causes for timeout in rabbitMQ

If the network becomes unresponsive (due to one of the various conditions you've already noted), the operating system will eventually return ETIMEDOUT as the result of any socket operations (such as recv, send, etc). At this point, the client will notify your application code with an exception and call any registered shutdown listeners.
