Interesting. Can one / do you install Erlang that way too, and does that
also involve building from source?

The recipe won't work on Windows (cygwin excepted, perhaps).
Even if the intention was to support multiple platforms, grabbing the
appropriate binary packages would still be a better choice than
building from source. That's what, say, the mongodb recipe does. I guess
we should get in touch with the rabbitmq recipe author.
