On second thoughts that shouldn't matter, as rabbitmqctl instances have a unique name. Has this issue happened before now? Do the server logs tell you anything about the time period when clients become disconnected (or unable to connect)? Also please upgrade to the latest rabbit if you can (2.8.4) as there have been numerous important bug fixes since 2.7.x releases.
