[rabbitmq-discuss] unexplained broker shutdown

Last question ;-)

Can the broker make the decision to page messages even if there is plenty of ram left (say 30GB out of 40GB?), just on its estimation?

Running low on memory. Or, more accurately, rabbit estimating that it 
will run out of memory if messages keep getting produced/consumed at the 
current rates.

There is no threshold as such at which paging starts, due to the 
heuristics mentioned above. There is, however, a threshold telling 
rabbit how much memory it has to play with. See 
http://www.rabbitmq.com/extensions.html#memsup. I recommend not fiddling 
with that.
