I ended up picking RabbitMQ because of its maturity and because Celery says
it's the most commonly used and since I'm definitely using Celery, the rest
is a cascading decision for me.
In the interest of completeness however, people are also using ZeroMQ also
which has alot of open source support and goes through OpenAMQ (at least
that's how I understand it):

For me it's all about Python support and docs (since I'm
developer-constrained).
