I admit setting the queue count to zero is a bit of a yucky way of purging a
queue. :-)
Serves me right for being a smart-*rse

however...

We already monitor our tiny rabbitmq infrastructure through nagios. Nagios
allows custom commands to be run when certain thresholds are reached, being
able to do that directly via SNMP is probably a cleaner way than
writing/debugging/deploying and calling custom scripts. Purging queues is
probably as inelegant as it gets, I don't think the same applies to altering
queue/exchange types, bindings and the like. And such functionality paves
the way for the official gumstix-sized rabbit appliance, look ma no hands or
web interface!
